Can anyone suggest a place where I can get real traditional food, without it being too expensive, like for a budget traveler? |

Hi Andre, sorry for the late reply. I'm facing with my laptop surfing prob & now I can reply to u. I can be ur tourist guide if u want it too, as I can guide & bring u to have nice & budget cost value of the variety foods. So tell me how many of u will be coming to Singapore & when is the day? I love to bring u & ur friends to go to Sentosa cause the place there is very nice for view with perfect scenery too. But the cost is quite expensive though, unless if u don't mind to have the trip there for once. As for having foods, I can bring u to the famous place & yet it's very reasonable price. If u need me as ur tourist guide, I'm much more appreciate & welcome u with ur friends to be here in Singapore. My advice to u, avoid from taking foods at 'Lau Pat Sat' cause the cost of the foods there is very expensive. |

depending where you would be staying.
but chinatown and little india have tons of backpackers lodge. but one of the most popular one is around arab street call Sleepy Sam.
to find food in singapore is never a problem as it is literally everywhere for its the locals very own interest.
as it is, we have Little India that majorly provides indian food. Chinatown for chinese food. Geylang Serai for malay food. but known for our multi racial, most of the hawker center literally sells the varieties from traditional to fusion. hawker centres prices can go down as low as a SGD 0.80 cents for plain Prata (indian food) or SGD3.50 Hainanese Chicken Rice (chinese) or SGD3.00 for Mee Rebus (malay) about SGD 6/7 for western.
That depends on which hawker centers. What i referred are the ones around the neighbourhood or you could try to drop at HarbourFront MRT and there's one right outside the stop. From there you could go to our very own extended island - Sentosa which cost you prolly around SGD3.00 per head for entrance. Prices would definitely be higher if you go to the shopping centres food court.
events wise, we have the traditional events such as Christmas (lights up around the town), Hari Raya (they have food and clothes bazaar for their preparation for celebration), Lantern Festival and so on.
for those music lovers, we too do have our own local DIY gigs which you can checkout the dates and location at soft.com.sg (SG local music portal).
not that we have our own national fruit but durian is one of the popular one among all yet exotic for most.
other than that you could just find another starbucks, 7-11, fast food restaurants almost everywhere.
nightlife could be found around Clarke Quay, Boat Quay, Chinatown, Holland Village. but do be reminded that its a non smoking area for the clubs unless there's a yellow box drawn. haha!
cheers! |

In Singapore you must try our famous Chille Craps, Chinese "Hainanese Chicken Rice" * Indian "Curry Fishead" and Malay "Satay" taste our tropical fruit "durian" for ever last memories. You can find all these in our hawker food centre located all over the island. |
