Wonderful Baltic Land
Submitted by lisa on 2008-06-17 05:53:57 (via www.youtube.com)
According to this video Estonia boasts historical and natural attractions. It is the northern Baltic land of primeval forests, rivers, bogs, lakes and sea islands. The low, largely flat landscape is also dotted with relics of Estonia's medieval glory, when the Teutonic knights reigned supreme and built castles.

Estonia is a great little gem, if you like beautiful shores, dense woods and solitude, but also old towns and villages. And history is everywhere.

I am spending 4 days in Estonia in July this year with my wife and baby. I will be spending at least 1, maybe 2 days in Tallinn, but I'm quite interested to see another part of Estonia as well. I've been reading travel brochures and travel books on Estonia and it seems to me that every region has its special places to visit, and its own charm. So I can't decide what to do.
Tartu is a bit too far to drive (after all, we don't have lots of time), so I was thinking maybe the south - towards Pärnu or maybe stay in the north and drive along the coast...

Are there any suggestions of what would be nicest to do in summer in Estonia?

Many thanks!

Pablo

Hey Pablo

One day in Tallinn is enaough to see the old town :) The other days i suggest to spend in south of estonia, there is many beautiful little towns .. and as one person said, history is everywhere :) But if you want to spend your time near sea, then Pärnu is perfect place to you :)

Hey Pablo,

I would recommend my normal walking route. From Kadrioru Park, Kadrioru loss(castle) to Russalka and the sea-shore. Bring some white bread, cause the swans like to eat it from you. Well atleast in winter, maybe they will come in summer too. Atleast it is great activity...

If you plan on driving the northern shore, then be sure to visit Kalvi Mõis, it is made to luxury hotel, but I like how it looks...

Ofcourse check the old town of tallinn, just walk around it...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tallinn this article has most landmarks of Tallinn... Be sure to check this museum http://www.okupatsioon.ee/english/index.htm if you like history and want to know what really happen...

http://www.patarei.com/ thats an interesting place too...

thing is, that in winter its cool here to, but in summer the nature is much richly and its much more interesting than in winter, for example pärnu and kuressaare also its nice to be in otepää(pühajärve lake) becouse in the summer there is very warm water. right now its going tu be muddy and rainie from march to may, from the middle of may to the middle of august its probably the best time to visit estonia:D

if the dates match id suggest visiting Viljandi Folk Music Festival. read more about it in this link. http://www.folk.ee/festival/en/XVII-Viljandi-Folk-Music-Festival

Viljandi is a nice little town, not too far from Tallinn, you can get there by train.

take care.

Hey.
I myself live in Tartu, but I have traveled also in Estonia. Ofcouse Tartu is most beautyful for me, cause it is the second capital and the nature in the town, river throuh it and many plases to rest and a pretty site for the Eye! I like it more than Tallinn/the first capital/ and Pärnu /the third capital/. But you thought somewhere closer.. allthou pärnu is as far as tartu from Tallinn, but if you shooce that road, then Pärnu IS the SummerCapital also, so maybe you would like it there! Sunny days are really nice there! But my suggestion is that you would like to go thro Haapsalu, it is near the sea and there are like awsome sites to be in a vacation. um.. you maybe google Haapsalu and if you like it you can contact me by my E-mail and I can maybe search some places for you to rest, like campings and so, near the sea. And they arent so expencive also i think at least. I myself am going to go sometime again if I can in the summer! but yeah Problably Tallinn to Haapsalu to Pärnu I d reccomend.

Have Sun in your days!:)
Best Wishes,
Triin

Hello Pablo,

Hard to recommend if I do not know your interest! Do you like hiking, sightseeing different cultures etc?
Estonia has 15 different county’s and everyone has own personality.
If I think about your family then my suggestions is next (http://www.soomaa.ee/?setlang=eng)

It's too hard to give advice. Four days is just enough time to be very touristic. :P

Pärnu is good choice, but there is too many tourists in summer time. The better way to learn out about Estonia and Estonians is bicycle. The north of Estonia is full of small nice places not far away from highway
